Acknowledged master of the New Age genre of music, Kevin Kern, has released The Winding Path,
a CD designed to accompany you on your healing journey. Its beautifully designed cover/brochure with guided visualization script is a visual and tactile treat, even before you put on the music. Then the music begins and you're spellbound! From the first notes of The Touch of Love (track one), I couldn't tear myself away from this album. It has such emotion, and it's so loving it's like a musical caress. Kevin Kern's piano and keyboard work is as beautiful as ever, of course, and you will also hear thunder, chimes, rainstick, drum, violin, harp, flute and guitar on this peaceful instrumental disc. The Winding Path would be a perfect musical environment for any healing practice or just as a way to unwind from a stressful day.

The words 'harp' and 'rock' sound a bit antithetical to me, but Catrin Finch's version of 'Harper's Bizarre' (written by Karl Jenkins) has opened my eyes. I've never heard a harpist rock out before! For a complete change of pace, the title track, 'Crossing the Stone,' is a lush orchestral arrangement that will linger in your mind all day. Finch's album is composed and arranged by Karl Jenkins, who also conducted the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra on Crossing the Stone. (Finch plays the first performances of Karl Jenkins' Adiemus 4: The Eternal Knot, by turn.) The Prince of Wales commissioned a harp concerto for Finch, which resulted in 'Over The Stone' by Karl Jenkins, of which the title track is the fourth movement. All I can say is, this is a harp music CD like no other: upbeat, modern, a little bit classical, pop, Latin and rock by turns. What a surprise!
