What follows is the (partial) article he was working on for this month, and only his second article for Aquarius, with a tribute from some of his colleagues. - The Editor Handling
Holiday Stress!
By
Roger Weinstein
In
many ways the world has become a much different
place since September 11. We are all pioneers
this holiday season, looking to forge a balance
between tradition, normalcy, and the new realities
facing our society.
This is the month many of us will be celebrating one or more holidays from various traditions. And despite the differences between 2001 and holidays past, even though we may not always realize it, we each still carry around our individual ideal of what for us constitutes a perfect holiday. This principle of perfection is embodied in the planet Neptune, which this month is in the sign of Aquarius. But how about the reality? Not only do we live in a changed political and economic world, there are all the usual shopping nightmares: long lines, traffic jams, short tempers. Not to mention making travel arrangements for the busiest time of the year, scheduling parties, concerts, recitals, etc. It takes a lot of wherewithal just to persevere through all of this! This energy of perseverance is embodied in the planet Mars, which begins the month in the sign of Aquarius, but moves into Pisces on the 8th. Stargazers may not have much control over traffic, lines, etc., but they can be aware that front page headlines are not going to alter some of the deep ingrained emotional patterns that the holidays have built up over the years. The following examples serve a dual purpose: to remind you to keep cool, and to alert you to your possible points of conflict. Let Neptune be the voice of ideal perfection, and Mars be the reality of how that ideal could be altered by living in the real world. Ideals
of the mind. Neptune: My mind is filled
with thoughts of brotherhood. 'Peace on
earth, goodwill towards men.' Mars:
Why doesn't the family want to cooperate?
In a minute I'm gonna' have to bust
open a few heads...
Ideals
about money. Neptune: I want everything
to be beautiful this year. This year I will
spare no expense. I will take my time to buy
only the most breathtakingly beautiful gifts.
Mars: To heck with traffic and
lines! This 'Close out' table has
something for everyone on my list!
Ideals of identity. Neptune: This is
the season of the year to be generous and
charitable. I enjoy supporting causes that
work for the universal good. Mars: Donation?
Sorry. I really wish I could. But there were
these very expensive 'toys' that I
just couldn't live without!
Ideals
about being empathetic. Neptune: I am
never in a hurry or abrupt. Patience and understanding
are my strongest virtues. Mars: I'm
tired of being patient. I want results, and
I want them now!
Ideals
about change. Neptune: Charging a problem
head-on is the best way to change the system!
Mars: Frontal attacks are not always
the most efficient way to reach one's
goals. Sometimes you have to be creative and
work outside the system.
