Mastermind Dreammakers

By Debbie Ellison

My possession of this book came about through the very principles it teaches - I manifested it! Or as the author would say, I “IN-VISIONED” it. When Kathryn, the editor of Aquarius, asked me to review a book she had just received, I was in the midst of researching and trying to create a Master Mind group. I had just started meeting weekly with a friend to work on envisioning and manifesting what we wanted in our lives. So it didn't totally surprise me when I went to the Aquarius mailbox one morning, wherein lay the book I was to review. I opened the mailbox, pulled out a large envelope with my name on it, sat in my car, and pulled out the book. Until that moment, I had no idea what it was about; Kathryn had told me only that it was a children's book/workbook she wanted me to review.

As I pulled the book slowly out of the envelope, the large, bright letters of the title gradually and mystically began to appear - MasterMind DreamMakers. I almost jumped with excitement, but I was too in awe to move. I e-mailed my partner-in-manifesting; I'll never forget her simple response - “Chills!”

As I read this book by Mimi Greek and Suzanne Smith Tillman, the principles I had been working on became clear. This is a book and workbook geared to children, but wonderful for adults also. The back cover recommends the book for “kids ages 5 - 13 and adults ages 14 - 150.” The workbook is a sequence of short stories, poems, games, activities, and visualizations, to be completed alone or with a group, a Dream Team.

The authors suggest meeting twice a week to help Dream Team members be “IN-POWER” and to “IN-VISION” their dreams. The MasterMind Dream Team pledge affirms: “I give to you! I give to me! We support each other to be happy and free. I commit to love and bright ideas. I commit to going beyond my fears! I honor you. I honor me. We allow each other to be happy and free!”

This delightful book is one of three finalists for the prestigious Benjamin Franklin 2002 book awards. Its animated illustrations and fun, inspiring text present the ideas of positive thinking, manifesting, and believing in oneself in a simple, entertaining way. It discusses “MasterMind... the part of our mind that tunes in to bright ideas and loving thoughts; being master of your mind” versus “MonsterMind... the part of our mind that tunes in to thoughts of blame, anger, fear and doubt,” stressing that to stay positive and manifest what you want, the MasterMind should always prevail.
