Music Reviews continued from last page. Mars Lasar's album, Karma, guides us, as spiritual seekers, to a sacred place where all knowledge is stored. This music is lush, sensuous, mysterious, a jungle of a musical soundscape, rich with the sounds of birds, crickets, whales, the ocean, Middle Eastern drumming, a rainstorm, chanting Tibetan monks, the Middle Eastern oud, an African chorus, and even the growl of a lion. The song titles outline some of the steps on the sacred path. Great Beast of Wisdom tells of knowledge gained from the whales. One might journey to Deep Cavern or even take the Seventh Journey before finding the right path. There will be times of Sacrifice before coming before The Holiness and realizing that we are part of the Inseparable Universe, just like everything else from the molecular level to animals to civilizations to star systems. Karma opens us to new worlds of the imagination and spirit. I can't recommend it highly enough! - KS Osho
Zen Tarot: Music for Tarot Reading was recorded at the Osho
Meditation Resort in Pune, India by musicians from around the world.
Performing in an open-air auditorium surrounded by Zen gardens, these
musicians melded Eastern and Western influences in music. The instruments
played range from flutes and tablas to synthesizers and guitars. The
mood is one of lightness and playfulness. This music serves as a companion
to the Osho Zen Tarot deck, which teaches us to interpret outside
events as reflections of our inner emotional state. A lovely, heartfelt
musical experience. - KS
How
do you pay proper homage to a master like Ravi Shankar? He's
a living world treasure! George Harrison calls him the Godfather
of World Music. Shankar, 81 years old, first presented Indian
classical music to America 68 years ago. His newest release, Vision
of Peace, chronicles his career during a period between the
late 70s and early 80s (ours, not his!). It's a two-CD set, full
of his extraordinary sitar music, and accompanied by tabla virtuoso
Alla Rakha and master Japanese musicians. The Japanese flavor
adds something unexpected and magical. Hear for yourself this legend
who played at Woodstock, the Monterey Pop Festival and Harrison's
Bangladesh benefit. - KS
